How to watch ‘Yellowstone’ online: Your ultimate streaming guide (2024)

Yellowstone” fans finally had a chance to get their fix for new episodes. Part 2 of Season 5, also known as Season 5b, premiered Sunday, Nov. 10. As in past seasons, the hit show will air new episodes weekly on Paramount Network starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Sunday nights with additional episodes airing weekly.

Three new episodes remain for the show. If you haven’t started the hit series or you want to binge it so you have the plots fresh in your memory, you can stream all the episodes on Peacock.

If you missed this past weekend’s episode, here’s where you can watch “Yellowstone” Season 5 episode 11 on-demand.

New episodes will be available to stream live or on demand on Philo, DirecTV Stream and FuboTV. Each service offers a free trial for new subscribers. In addition, Sling offers 50% off the first month for new subscribers and includes Paramount Network as part of an add-on package for additional charge.

The first half of Season 5 consisted of eight episodes. It saw John Dutton become the state’s governor and take action to stop the development of an airport. The move once again brought he and his family at odds with the developer.

As he continued to try to navigate his new political landscape, other members of the Dutton family dealt with their own personal issues. A crash led to Kayce and Monica losing their baby. Beth dealt with legal issues as her feud with Jamie escalated when she learned he has a child. As the developers find a way to subvert Jamie to their wishes, he called for the impeachment of his father as governor and both sides weighed their options for removing their rivals as new secrets were revealed.

Here’s what else you need to know about the show and its cast, including other ways you’ll be able to watch “Yellowstone’s” return.

What is “Yellowstone” about?

Starring Kevin Costner as family patriarch John Dutton, “Yellowstone” follows the exploits of the Dutton family and their ongoing fights to preserve their Montana cattle ranch from developers and others who are interested in taking away the land that has belonged to the family for more than a century.

The modern Western has gone in several directions as the series progresses, including leading to the family’s involvement in local and then state politics. Additionally, love and loss have impacted the family dynamics in many unexpected ways and has led to prequel spinoffs.

The show was created by actor Taylor Sheridan who actually appears in the show as a cowboy. Since “Yellowstone” and its prequels have come out, Sheridan has been responsible for other popular shows such as “Tulsa King” and “Mayor of Kingstown.” While he had originally planned for more seasons of the show, the problems with Costner’s availability led him to decide to end “Yellowstone” with the final run of episodes.

Why is Kevin Costner not returning to “Yellowstone”?

Costner announced in a June 20 Instagram post that he would not be returning to the show after previously saying that he would have liked to return for later seasons before Sheridan decided to pivot to a new upcoming sequel.

The primary reason was Costner’s desire to get his longstanding project, “Horizon: An American Saga,” off the ground. Part one premiered at Cannes earlier this year. Unfortunately, it garnered less-than-stellar reviews and earned only $11 million in its opening weekend. It was recently announced that Chapter 2 has been pulled from its August theatrical release. It will instead premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September.

Why is “Yellowstone” not on Paramount+?

The short answer to this question is that a deal had already been inked for seasons to air exclusively on Peacock before Paramount+ existed. Read on to learn more about why you can’t watch “Yellowstone” on Paramount Plus. The good news, the upcoming sequel “The Madison” will be available on Paramount+.

Is it Season 5, Part 2 or Season 6 of “Yellowstone”?

While originally referred to as the second-half of Season 5 – or Season 5, Part 2 – many online discussions have referred to this final run of episodes as Season 6. The long delay since the last new episode, New Year’s Day 2023, could play a role in this.

None of the network’s promotional materials mention the season. IMDB’s page for Yellowstone still lists the upcoming episodes as 5.9 and so on.

Update: A representative from the Paramount Network has confirmed that the remaining new episodes are indeed being looked at as Part 2 of Season 5 and not a new, separate season.

“Yellowstone” Season 1 Summary

In the premiere season, we meet John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner. He’s the owner of Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, which has been handed down from generation to generation. But his farm is threatened by a land developer who wants to build condominiums. A Native American casino owner also wants Dutton’s land, which he believes is his peoples’ birthright.

John’s oldest son, Lee, is meant to run the ranch after John dies, but Lee is shot and killed by his brother Kayce’s brother-in-law. John’s daughter, Beth, works at one of the largest bank firms in America. Middle son Jamie is working on a political career as Montana’s Attorney General. Kayce doesn’t like the idea of returning to support the ranch, since he lives on the Native American reservation with his wife, Monica, and their son, Tate. That and there’s shady business that happens on and off the ranch land and more.

“Yellowstone” Season 2 Summary

There is a new threat to the ranch that comes to light. Aside from Thomas Rainwater – chief of the Broken Rock Reservation where Kayce, Monica and Tate live – and Dan Jenkins, a land developer for Paradise Valley, the Beck brothers have been a pain for John, Rainwater and Jenkins.

John realizes two of his biggest enemies have become allies and continue to be an aggressive threat against the ranch. Through all this, he suffers a ruptured ulcer that puts his life in jeopardy.

Kayce moves back to the ranch, Beth is expanding the ranch land, and Jamie puts the family ranch first before his political career. But Jamie ends up putting the ranch and his family in a tough position. Tate is kidnapped by a group of a gang of Neo-Nazis hired by the Becks, and Beth is brutally beaten by two men who attack her and her assistant in her bank office and more.

“Yellowstone” Season 3 Summary

The fight with the Becks brothers is won and brings a little truce with Broken Rock Reservation. But there doesn’t ever seem to be peace and quiet with John and his ranch, as they face a new threat that they might not be able to get rid of.

Now, Market Equities, which holds political ties, wants control of the Dutton ranch. Not only are the Duttons dealing with that, but there is a rival rancher that’s holding a grudge against the family. John and Tate, after being kidnapped, are having more grandfather/grandson bonding moments.

Jamie becomes livestock commissioner after John – accused of poisoning the cattle – steps down. Rip and Beth make it official and are getting married; Jimmy gets severely injured and is asked by John to quit the rodeo; Jamie meets his birth father and more.

“Yellowstone” Season 4 Summary

Our main character, John Dutton, is severely injured during an attack on the Duttons and the ranch. He ends up in a coma and awakens months later. Beth survives a bombing but is burned and Kayce heads off a shootout at the Montana Livestock Association office in Livingston while the ranch hands defend against mercenaries attacking the ranch.

Jamie has distanced himself from the family and begins working to start his own dynasty, but he’s roped back in to try to figure out who put a hit out on the Duttons. On top of that, Jamie finds out he’s a father to a young boy and his mother, with whom Jamie had a previous relationship, tells him to cut ties with his birth father, as he went to prison for murder. Yellowstone fans meet Carter and finally learn who put the hit out on the Dutton family.

“Yellowstone” Season 5 – Part I Summary

John Dutton is elected the next governor of Montana while his predecessor is heading to the Senate. John is getting ready to protect the Yellowstone ranch in his capacity as governor. But Market Equities is refusing to back down and gets reinforcement to take the Duttons down. The season continues this fall.

What are the “Yellowstone” prequel shows?

At present, two prequels of “Yellowstone” have aired. The first was “1883″ which came out in December 2021. The second, “1923,” premiered in December 2022. Both are available to watch on Paramount+. A third prequel, “1944,” was recently announced.

1883″ stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as the Dutton family ancestors who first made their way from Texas to Montana in the years following the Civil War and is the generation responsible for founding the family’s ranch.

1923″ stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as a new generation of Duttons dealing with new problems of the times, including Western expansion, Prohibition as well as the economic problems brought on by the Great Depression.

While there is little news on “1944″ at the moment, following the end of the current season of “Yellowstone,” a new series that was tentatively being called “2024″ will premiere and was expected to star Matthew McConaughey as well as members of the current cast. It was later updated that the show will be called “The Madison” and will star Michelle Pfeiffer while featuring other members of the “Yellowstone” cast.

While nothing has been announced at present, actor Cole Hauser recently came out stating that he’d love to see a “Yellowstone” spinoff starring Rip and Beth.
